Consolidated Financial Statements
Brandon Gagnon and Kelsey Schmidt from MNP presented Council with a comprehensive review of the Town of Grimshaw’s Consolidated Financial Statements for the 2024 fiscal year. MNP commended the Town of Grimshaw staff for their knowledge and cooperation throughout the audit process. Council extended gratitude to MNP for their professionalism and ongoing partnership.
Ken Sargent House
Dale Bond, Director of the Ken Sargent House in Grande Prairie, presented information to Council on the Grande Prairie Hospital Foundation’s Ken Sargent House project. Located next to Grande Prairie Hospital, this facility will provide an affordable, comfortable home away from home for families of patients receiving care. A sod-turning ceremony is scheduled for May 2025, with project completion anticipated by late fall or early winter of 2026.
Capital and Operating Budgets
Council approved the Town of Grimshaw’s Capital Budget of $1,951,000. The Capital Budget allocates funding for long-term infrastructure, projects and tangible capital assets. Council postponed the review of the Operating Budget to the May 14, 2025 Council Meeting.
Mile Zero Fan Summit Sponsorship
Council reviewed a sponsorship request from the Mile Zero Fan Summit and approved $300 in support of their Comic-Con event on June 6 and 7, 2025 at the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex. The Mile Zero Fan Summit partnered with Grimshaw Municipal Library to host the event, which includes games, trivia, speakers, movies and a vendor market.
Peace River Nuclear Power Project
Council reviewed a letter from Energy Alberta regarding the Peace River Nuclear Power Project, indicating that the Initial Project Description (IPD) has been submitted to the Impact Assessment Agency (IAAC) of Canada and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). Council made a motion for Councilors to review the IPD in depth and provide questions and comments to the CAO prior to the Peace Regional Energy Committee meeting scheduled for May 7, 2025. The IAAC and CNSC are inviting public comments on the IPD until May 14, 2025. A link to provide and review comments can be found at grimshaw.ca.
Assessment Services Proposals
Council reviewed two proposals submitted for property tax assessment services for the Town of Grimshaw and made a motion to retain KCL Consulting Inc. Services provided include annual property assessments, inspections, supplementary assessments, and representation in complaint hearings.
Communications Contract
Council approved amendments to its contract with Revive Communications, which include an increase in hours and an expanded scope of services. Revive Communications provides communication services for the Town of Grimshaw, including media relations, content creation, social media and website management, council communications, engagement, promotions and strategic planning support.
