- Fires are continuing to burn in the Northwest, but the weekend rains helped firefighters and their efforts.
The usual suspects, that is the Red Earth East Complex, Slims Creek, north of Manning, Sousa Creek, near Chateh, and the Bison Lake Fires, east of Manning are still listed as Out-of-Control.
However, the fire near Meander River has been downgraded to Being Held at 650 hectares. - The good news from the rain and cooler temperatures is that the Fire Ban in High Level has been lifted.
The Ban was in place longer than expected, especially after the Peace and Big Lakes started getting rain in early to mid-June. - The Peace Region has been hit by rain and cooler temperatures during this past weekend. Before the weekend, Crops were reported to be in almost dire need of moisture.
Soil Moisture was at 31%, and current crop ratings were at 23% at good to excellent levels. - Two former UCP caucus members have announced that they want to bring the party that ruled Alberta for more than four decades back to political life.
Peter Guthrie and Scott Sinclair have announced plans to relaunch the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta. - The Wheatbelt Baseball League is in the final stages of putting a schedule together for the playoffs.
At this point, it looks like all seven teams are in, with seeds 1-7 being Rycroft, Peace River, Grimshaw, Manning, Grande Prairie, Sexsmith and High Prairie.
Games are expected this week, stay tuned! - The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game set in Chicago against the White Sox tonight. Jose Berrios starts for the Jays against Sean Burke.
- A mix of sun and cloud is forecasted for the Northwest this afternoon. Highs are in the low to mid 20’s, with lows tonight being mild, in the low teens.
Temps cool off a little on Wednesday, but bounce back by the weekend.
