  1. High Level authorities have two in custody on weapons and drug charges.
    A traffic stop on Highway 58, at the end of July, led to the seizure of a loaded firearm, cocaine, and cash.
  2. Alberta Wildfire says more than 40 wildfires started in Alberta over the long weekend. Luckily, the vast majority of them have been extinguished.
    43 new wildfires were detected between Aug. 2 and Aug. 5, most of which were in the Lac La Biche and Slave Lake areas.
  3. Crop Conditions are at 22%, rated Good to Excellent, which is by far, the lowest percentage in the province.
    Sub-surface moisture is improved to 35% in the area, up from 27% the week before.
    Meanwhile, the first cut of Dryland Hay is almost complete, producers are not expecting a second cut during the harvest.
    Grasshoppers are still being a pest, as 6% of fields in the region are over threshold, which is 15+ per square metre.
  4. The annual Misery Mountain Truck Raffle is being held, and tickets are being sold at a good pace. (Chris Johnson Interview in separate story)
  5. The town of High Prairie is celebrating summer with a new attraction. The Buchanan Splash pad is being launched today, adjacent to the Fire Hall in town.
  6. Minor Football Associations in Valleyview, High Prairie, and Peace River are starting to get set for the 2025 season.
    Registration is now open for the High School and Bantam Football seasons, this fall. Camps are starting later in August, with regular season games starting just after Labour Day.
  7. Wheatbelt Baseball League Finals resume tonight. Game 2 – Rycroft is in Peace River, 7:15 at the Ski Hill. The Rage took the opening game.
  8. The Toronto Blue Jays look for the sweep in Colorado this afternoon against the Rockies. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Kyle Freeland.
  9. The Mackenzie is continuing with summer conditions, while the Peace and Big Lakes get wet.
    Showers are happening tonight and tomorrow in those two areas, as up to 40 mm could hit the ground before all is said and done.
    Meanwhile, the Mackenzie deals with a mix of sun and cloud. Highs are in the low to mid 20’s, with lows are in the low teens.
    Skies will be generally clear for the upcoming weekend.
