The Beginning of the end.
This Demon Slayer movie takes place after the four series of the TV series. This is the first of three movies that will wrap up the franchise. At first, I didn’t think it would come to our theatre, but once I realized it was, I had to do a lot of catching up. So, I binged those episodes I still had to catch up on to make sure I was ready for the film.
We follow Tanjiro, the Hashira, and all of our other characters as they are thrust into the infinity castle. The stage for the final fight. Visually, it is such an interesting concept. A constantly changing, expanding castle that extends indefinitely. This leads to some really cool fights as the characters fly across the castle during their clashes.
Visually, this movie looks great. Demon Slayer has been known for its distinct art style, especially with the breathing techniques. On the big screen, they have gone all out, making sure that everything looks as good as it can.
The soundtrack has also been a highlight in the Demon Slayer franchise. I love when the characters’ motifs are heard during their fights and moments to shine it really adds to the buildup and the excitement of a hype moment.
Story-wise, we get to see a few different characters take on a few opponents, and each gets moments to shine. Of course, there is still a lot unfinished. Some characters won’t get their moment till the next movie. Despite that, the stories that were told were fantastic. In classic demon slayer fashion, there are a lot of flashbacks during the fights, which, if that is not your cup of tea in storytelling, then it can feel like it’s dragging on. Although I do feel like the stories that were told were interesting enough to keep me engaged the entire time.
Many film analysts underestimated this film, not realizing its fan base. It has taken the number one spot at the box office and was the number one movie globally on release. This, of course, is great for the franchise, meaning that the other two films will definitely be hitting theatres. I also wonder if this is a good sign for other anime films to have the potential to hit the big screen?
Overall, if you are a fan of the franchise, this is a must-watch. You need to see the start of the conclusion to the great franchise. If you haven’t started Demon Slayer or haven’t heard of it before, this is your sign to start watching it and check out this film before it’s gone.
