Mayor Crystal McAteer of High Level, Alberta, has been honored with the Jim Carr Forest Community Champion Award by the Forest Products Association of Canada.

This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to supporting Canada’s forest sector and the communities that rely on it.

Derek Nighbor, FPAC President and CEO, praised Mayor McAteer as a great advocate for Canadian forestry, highlighting her support for sector jobs in her community and her leadership during the catastrophic fires in High Level in 2019.

He noted her collaboration with industry and employees to create opportunities and her understanding of the sector’s challenges, including wildfires and trade, as well as the social, environmental, and economic benefits forestry brings to Alberta and the country.
