Town of Grimshaw Highlights…

The Town of Grimshaw Council convened on September 24, 2025, addressing several key community matters.

Organizational and Regular Council Meetings

Council scheduled the 2025 Organizational Meeting for Monday, November 3, at 6:00 p.m. This session will include the swearing-in of the Mayor and Councillors, appointment of the Deputy Mayor, establishment of the regular meeting schedule, and assignment of representatives to committees and boards. The first Regular Council Meeting of the new Council is set for November 5 at 7:00 p.m.

Cancellation of October 22 Council Meeting

Recognizing the proximity to the new Council’s term commencement, Council voted to cancel the October 22, 2025, Regular Council Meeting. This decision allows time for mandatory orientation and training before the new Council’s first regular meeting. A special meeting may be convened if urgent matters arise.

Alberta Next Panel Update

Deputy Mayor Stacey Messner provided insights from the Alberta Next Panel Session held in Grande Prairie on September 17. The panel gathers input from Albertans on various topics. Council plans to revisit this update on November 5 with the new Council and has directed Administration to provide background information to incoming Councillors. Additionally, they will inquire about inviting the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Team and MLA Nolan Dyck to present information on the Police Funding Model.

Shared Schools Facility Parking

Addressing safety and parking concerns near the Grimshaw Shared Schools Facility on 50th Street, Council reviewed proposed changes. Administration has been tasked with compiling a report on snow removal and emergency access for these changes, to be discussed in an upcoming Joint Shared Schools Committee meeting.

Greenspace Maintenance Agreement Extension

Council approved a three-year extension of the municipal greenspace maintenance contract with A.C.E.S. Vegetation, at an annual fee of $84,000.

Grave and Urn Site Requirement – Flood Remediation Section Policy

To protect the integrity of the Grimshaw Women’s Institute Cemetery, Council reviewed the Grave and Urn Site Policy. They requested that the requirement for hand-digging for urn placements be extended to the entire cemetery.

Revive Communications Contract Termination

Council accepted formal notice from Revive Communications regarding the termination of their agreement to provide communication services for the Town of Grimshaw, effective October 16, 2025. Council expressed gratitude to Vanessa Burns for her contributions to the Town’s communications.

Fire Chief Services Agreement

The Fire Chief Services Agreement between the Town of Grimshaw and the MD of Peace No. 135 was reviewed. Administration will bring the agreement back for review by the new Council on November 26, 2025, and subsequently on an annual basis each February.

Invitation for Tender – Cemetery Grass Cutting Contract

Council was updated on the public tender for grass cutting services at the Women’s Institute Cemetery, covering a three-year term from May 1, 2026, to September 30, 2028.

The final official meeting of the current Council is scheduled for October 8, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Town of Grimshaw Administration Office.
