In response to the ongoing teacher strike disrupting instructional time, the Alberta government has announced that November 2025 diploma exams will be optional for students.
Those wishing to write the exams can request to do so, and school boards are required to accommodate these requests.
The exams will proceed on their originally scheduled dates.
Students who opt out will have their final grades based solely on school-awarded marks, ensuring they can graduate on time without affecting post-secondary applications.
No changes have been made to the January and June diploma exams or provincial achievement tests.
