The Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission has released an interim report recommending significant changes to the Peace Country’s electoral map.
The proposal suggests merging the Central Peace-Notley and Peace River constituencies into a new riding named Peace River-Notley, encompassing a population of approximately 48,600 residents.
This consolidation would affect current cabinet ministers: Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen, representing Central Peace-Notley, and Municipal Affairs Minister Dan Williams of Peace River.
Additionally, Saddle Hills County would shift from Central Peace-Notley to Grande Prairie-Wapiti, while Mackenzie County and Paddle Prairie would move from Peace River to a newly proposed Mackenzie riding.
The commission plans to hold public meetings in January to gather feedback on these proposed changes.
