  1. The Provincial Government is investing $7 million dollars to support sport and recreation infrastructure projects throughout the province.
    14 projects are getting grant money for facilities in the province, including a multi-purpose facility in Little Buffalo, as part of the Lubicon Lake Band.
  2. $220 million dollars is being invested to combat homelessness, supporting thousands of shelter spaces across the province, including here in the Peace Region.
    As well, nearly $2 million dollars is being supplied to support operations of temporary shelters in various communities.
  3. For the first time in two years, the Grimshaw Christmas Market is happening. The event is tomorrow, from 10-6 at the Mile Zero Multiplex.
    The Market was cancelled last minute last year because of a water-main Break at the facility.
  4. Alberta municipalities meeting at a Calgary conference, overwhelming voted in favor of a municipal accommodation tax allowing municipalities to charge hotel and short-term rental guests a fee.
  5. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said she’s on board with Prime Minister Mark Carney’s second batch of key major projects picked out for potential fast-track approval.
  6. Local Volleyball this weekend… The annual Peace Classic Volleyball Tournament takes place today and tomorrow at various venues in Peace River.
    The High School, Glenmary, TA Norris and the Baytex Energy Center are the facilities to check out the action.
  7. Local Football this weekend…
    The Peace River Pioneers High School Football team play their first game since the strike, and it’s a playoff game against Millwoods Christian of Edmonton tomorrow afternoon. Also, Valleyview plays in Wainwright tomorrow afternoon.
  8. NWJHL this weekend… Fairview is in FSJ, Grande Prairie is in Beaverlodge, and Dawson Creek is in Sexsmith tonight.
    Fairview is in Peace River and Dawson Creek is in Beaverlodge tomorrow. North Peace is in FSJ on Sunday.
  9. NPHL this weekend… Valleyview is in Fox Creek tonight. Dawson Creek is in High Prairie, Falher is in FSJ, and Grande Prairie is in Spirit River tomorrow.
  10. NJHL this weekend… The High Prairie Red Wings play tonight at home to Athabasca, and tomorrow in Edson.
  11. AJHL this weekend… The Grande Prairie Storm play tomorrow in Bonnyville, and Sunday in Lloydminster.
  12. A mix of sun and cloud with a slight chance of flurries are in the forecast for today, but digits will be cooler. Highs are just below zero with lows tonight being around -10.
    The Mackenzie could see some snow on Sunday.
