As winter weather settles into the region, many municipalities are reminding residents and property owners to prioritize safety during snowy and icy conditions. Town of Fairview officials have released their Snow Safety guidance to help ensure roads, sidewalks, and neighbourhoods remain safe for everyone throughout the winter season.
Town officials note that while winter brings beauty and seasonal enjoyment, it also requires extra care and cooperation from the community. Residents are encouraged to maintain safe routines and follow local snow removal bylaws.
Under the Town’s snow removal guidelines, residents are expected to clear snow and ice from their driveways and sidewalks in a responsible manner. Snow must be placed back onto the property where it originated, and residents must comply with all Town bylaws and safety notices. If a property owner receives a notice regarding improper snow placement, the issue must be addressed within 24 hours.
The Town also emphasizes what residents should avoid. Snow must not be pushed or deposited onto streets, lanes, roadways, sidewalks, public property, or neighbouring private property without permission. Piling snow near intersections or property corners is prohibited, as it can block visibility and create traffic hazards. Residents are also reminded not to leave snow on roadways after clearing driveways and to avoid parking in ways that interfere with snow plowing or snow loading operations.
Additional safety reminders include ensuring that snow and ice do not accumulate on roofs or eaves in a way that could fall onto sidewalks or pose a danger to pedestrians. Property owners are responsible for the actions of contractors hired to remove snow, and improper snow placement may result in penalties. If snow is not removed after official notice, the Town may complete the work and charge the cost back to the property owner.
The Town of Fairview acknowledges the ongoing efforts of Public Works crews, who are working diligently to keep roads and sidewalks safe during periods of heavy snowfall. Officials stress that cooperation from residents and contractors is essential to maintaining a safe community throughout the winter months.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed, plan ahead during winter storms, and do their part to help Fairview remain safe and accessible for all.
