Warming Trend and Snowmelt Procedures Underway from Town of Peace River

With a warming trend now underway following a December of heavy snowfall, the Town of Peace River has activated procedures to address and mitigate issues that may arise from snowmelt.
Town officials say they remain in regular contact with the Province, and while river flooding is not anticipated at this time, conditions are being closely monitored in coordination with BC Hydro. Emergency response partners are also on standby should access issues develop.
Snow removal has been completed on most major roads, with crews continuing work throughout other areas of the community.
Storm sewer outlets through the berms remain closed by design to prevent river water from backing up into lower-lying neighbourhoods. Because of this, localized ponding may occur during melt conditions. Town crews will continue to monitor and manage water levels as required.
Residents who observe significant ponding and do not see Town crews in the area are encouraged to contact Public Works at 780-624-3085.
The Town is also reminding residents and businesses to take proactive steps, including clearing snow away from foundations and window wells, ensuring exhaust outlets remain unobstructed, and using caution around falling or shifting snow and ice from roofs. Commercial property owners are asked to ensure roof drainage systems connected to the storm system are not frozen.
Officials say response efforts will continue to be prioritized based on urgency and public safety, and updates will be shared if conditions change.
