Feeding Techniques changed with all the snow (Karin Schmid)

Northwest Alberta received a lot of snow in December, which means ranchers and farmers are needing to keep an eye on their stock.

Open feed supplies have been buried, which means Ranchers are having to dig out, while stored feed need roofs checked with all the snow on top.

Add to that, cooler than normal temperatures meaning the stock need the extra feed to maintain quality living levels.

It is the same demand for the water supply as well, as the water intake, and supply troughs need to be observed, especially with digits being lower than normal.

With this significant snowfall last month, and the first in many years, Farmers, Ranchers and Producers are hoping this blast of winter from Mother Nature, has little to no impact on quality of product producing the highest of yields.

The Beef Production and Extension Lead for the Alberta Beef Producers, is Karin Schmid.
