rcmp-jpg-63

The Alberta RCMP is urging drivers to remain distraction-free behind the wheel to enhance road safety. In 2025, officers issued 3,337 tickets for distracted, highlighting the ongoing issue.

Distracted driving encompasses more than using handheld devices; it includes activities like personal grooming,, adjusting GPS or audio, and attending passengers or pets.
To minimize distractions:

– Plan ahead: Set up hands-free devices, GPS, and music before driving.

– Pull over safely: If you need to text or make a call, stop in a safe location and park your vehicle.

The penalty for distracted driving in Alberta is a $300 fine and three demerit points.

Sgt. Darrin Turnbull of Alberta RCMP Traffic emphasizes, “Distractions behind the wheel are never worth putting yourself, or other motorists, at risk.”
