The trial of Kyra Renee Backs, a 32-year-old High Prairie woman charged with second-degree murder in the October 2022 death of a seven-month-old boy, has been rescheduled.
Originally set to begin on January 5, 2026, the 20-day trial was adjourned at the request of Backs’ lawyer, who needed more time to review disclosure materials.
New trial dates are expected to be set on May 22, 2025, in the Court of King’s Bench in Peace River.
Backs, who operated a day home at the time of the incident, was charged on October 15, 2022, following an investigation by the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit.
