- The weather in the Northwest is continuing to clear up from the latest blast of winter.
That means Snow Removal is happening in various jurisdictions on roads and back alleys. - The fourth of four people charged in a convenience store shooting in High Level, has been sentenced to community service.
Joey Nanooch was handed an 18-month conditional sentence, after pleading guilty to weapons charges. - One of the biggest voices against Alberta separation has come from the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.
The nation has filed a legal challenge against the provincial government on actions it says allowed for the approval of a separatist petition. (Interview in separate story) - Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says out-of-control immigration levels are overwhelming the province’s core social services and has announced a referendum will take place this fall, asking residents to weigh in on nine questions addressing both that and possible changes to Canada’s Constitution.
- The Province is optimistic regarding precipitation and moisture levels, heading into the Spring.
Several years of drought conditions have caused concern for the landscape, because of lack of rainfall and snowpack.
At this time, The Peace River Basin is labelled as a Stage 2 drought condition, with the Slave Lake Basin being at Stage 3. - The community of Dixonville is keeping residents informed of their new school.

- AEHL this weekend… The U-13’s play 3 in Edmonton, the U-15’s play Sunday in Grande Prairie, the U-18’s are off.
- NJHL this weekend… The playoffs start this weekend, with the High Prairie Red Wings playing Athabasca.
Game 1 is tonight in High Prairie, Game 2 is tomorrow in Athabasca, Game 3 is Sunday, if needed, in High Prairie. - AJHL this weekend… The Grande Prairie Storm play Sunday at home to Devon.
- At the Olympics, Canada has another medal, a bronze from Quebec’s Valarie Maltais in Women’s 1,500 speed skating.
In Curling, Rachel Homan lost 6-3 to Sweden this morning, They play the USA for Bronze tomorrow morning. Brad Jocobs plays Great Britain for Gold tomorrow morning.
In hockey, Canada got a last-minute goal from Nathan MacKinnon to beat Finland 3-2. Canada plays for Gold on Sunday morning.
Canada has 16 medals at the Games, Four Gold, Five Silver and seven Bronze, good to be 11th on the table. - The cold continues into this afternoon in the Northwest. More cloud cover might be in the cards as well, with a little snow attached.
Highs are in the minus teens, with lows still needing the block heater chord. Temps get a little warmer next week.
