Big Lakes County Council has decided not to proceed with its annual Charity Golf Tournament in 2026 citing rising operational costs.
Instead, Council has chosen to distribute the remaining funds from the Big Lakes County Charity Tournament business account directly to local organizations.
A total of $7,091.64 has been divided equally among three recipients: the High Prairie Palliative Care Society, Mitaa Detox Centre, and J.B. Woods Continuing Care Centre. Each organization will receive $2,363.88.
Council selected the three groups because they have not previously received funding from the Charity Golf Tournament, ensuring the County’s support reaches new community organizations.
“Big Lakes County is proud to continue supporting organizations that make a meaningful difference in our community,” said Reeve Tyler Airth. “These funds will go directly to charities that provide essential care and support to our residents, and we hope this contribution will make a positive impact.”
Despite the cancellation of this year’s tournament, Big Lakes County says it remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance the well-being of residents across the region.
