Berwyn Council Highlights

In the Village of Berwyn council meeting, Staff Sergeant Lacey Blair presented the Peace Regional RCMP’s third-quarter report for October to December 5. The report highlighted a decrease in break and and mischief incidents, alongside an increase in mental health-related calls.Additionally, CAO Jatin Saini shared resident survey concerning speeding and RCMP, which will inform future strategies.

Council reviewed the Traffic Calming and Speeding Survey results, 94 community responses. These insights will guide upcoming recommendations to address local traffic concerns.

In regional collaboration efforts, the Village Berwyn extended an invitation to the of Berwyn to join the Peace Regional Energy Committee, appointing Mayor Nicole Johnson as the representative and Deputy Mayor Brian Carreau the alternate. This committee aims to foster information sharing and joint initiatives in energy development within the Peace Region.

Plans underway to reopen the Village campground for 2026 season, featuring a low-cost self-registration, site, and oversight by Public Works. Council is also reviewing related bylaws to ensure compliance.

Furthermore, Council discussed a draft Capital and Equipment Strategy outlining a three-year plan focusing on infrastructure priorities such as roads, drainage, and snow management. Engineering reviews and phased road work are planned to maintain a balanced approach to infrastructure development.

In news the potential for utilizing the Berwyn Arena as a multifunctional space was discussed, with to conduct appals structural assessments.
Council also approved a resident’s request to extend the deadline for relocating non-compliant sheds due to winter conditions, reviewed policies addressing malfunctioning water meters, aiming to improve service scheduling billing.

Economic development initiatives were highlighted, including the Enabling Housing Choice North Project and upcoming career fairs in Grimshaw, scheduled for June 4 and October 17, 2026, to connect high school students with local opportunities.

Lastly, Council approved Councillor Vanderok’s attendance at the Rural Health Professions Action Plan Northwestern Regional on June 2, 2026, in Sexsmith, Alberta.
