- Big Lakes County is preparing for a Spring Thaw, which will start tomorrow, and get warmer into next week.
The County has, and will continue to clear drainage ditches and culverts, in anticipation of the large snowpack melting significantly in the days ahead, which could lead to higher water levels in tributaries, as well as standing water and pooling. - The Provincial Electoral Boundaries Commission has recommended their final report, heading into the next election.
The Commission sees 89 constituencies in Alberta, up from 87, but no real changes are expected in the Northwest, except for the inclusion of Swan Hills in the Lesser Slave Lake riding. - The 2026 NorthernLink Ag., Home and Sports show runs today and tomorrow at the Arena and Legion in Fairview. - Alberta’s government says it’s soon instituting provincewide rules to police bad behavior among local municipal councils.
Municipal Affairs Minister Dan Williams says he’ll propose changes to the Municipal Government Act in the coming weeks, to bring provincial third-party oversight to ethics complaints in an effort to prevent abuses and boost public trust in local leaders. - Minor Hockey Provincials are happening again this weekend, as the U-18 B tournament in High Prairie. Eight teams are present, with a champion crowned on Sunday.
- Two games in the NHL tonight… Chicago plays at the Rangers, and Detroit is in Buffalo.
- The Toronto Blue Jays start the 2026 regular season tonight at home to the Athletics. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Luis Severino.
- Snow is hitting the Northwest today and tonight… 5-10cm in the Peace, 10-15cm in the Big Lakes and 2-4cm in the Mackenzie, will fall.
After that, skies will be clearing out, and digits will start getting warmer, prompting the start of the Spring Thaw.
