Residents in Peace River are being encouraged to prepare for possible flooding as river break-up approaches.
The Town says those living in the North End, Lower West Peace, Downtown areas, and near the Heart River Bridge and Pat’s Creek should take precautions now. Forecast warmer weather for this weekend could start a change in river conditions with the potential to increase flood risk in low-lying and more vulnerable areas.
Officials recommend moving valuables off ground level floors, out of basements, and preparing an emergency kit with essential items should it be needed.
Residents are also advised to stay informed by following the Town of Peace River on social media, visiting the 2026 Melt link on PeaceRiver.ca, and staying tuned to local media such as River Country and KIX FM.
