Alberta Retail Sales Regress

Numbers from Statistics Canada says Alberta retailers rang up $6.6 billion in sales during the month of November, which represents a drop of 0.6 percent from the previous month.  StatsCan says the decline in sales is a result of lower sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers.  Over the past year, it’s still an increase of 6 percent.  Nationwide, sales moved in the opposite direction; It grew by 0.4 percent to $43 billion.  StatsCan says it’s the result of unseasonably cold weather, as well as promotional events during November at clothing and clothing accessories stores.  ATB Financial says over the next few months, a slumping loonie and an anemic economic backdrop may cause some headaches for retailers in Alberta, as well as right across Canada.
