Another season for the North Peace Hockey League has been cancelled.

League President Jack McAvoy tells the Trending 55 Newsroom that the teams in the league weren’t able to get enough players committed for this season.

“They just couldn’t get a lot of commitment out of some guys who had work commitments and with COVID a lot of guys didn’t want to get vaccinated. It just came down to an 8 game schedule starting in January and it didn’t seem feasible.”

The league has not played since March of 2020 when the onset of the pandemic cancelled the league finals that season.

McAvoy does expect the fans to come back once they’re able to play again.

“If you have hockey teams in the small towns like Manning, Falher and Grimshaw, people will come out. They’ll support it, it’s good entertainment and people enjoy it.”
