Big Lakes County Council has chosen its leadership for the next 12 months.

A man who is familiar to the roll, Ken Matthews was voted as Reeve by his colleagues today, and David Marx will be Deputy Reeve.

The council has an organizational meeting every year to elect its leadership and make various committee appointments.

Matthews served as Reeve from 2013-2018 and was also the most recent Deputy Reeve.

“I would like to thank my fellow councillors for their trust and confidence in electing me to the position of Reeve,” says Matthews in a statement.

“I plan to make it my priority to work as a team with Council, administration, ratepayers, and stakeholders to help accomplish Council’s goals. As always, I will continue to advocate for the residents of Big Lakes County to ensure that our issues are heard.”

Richard Simard was the Reeve up until today.

David Marx will be the new Deputy Reeve, a position he previously held from 2001-2018.

“It is an honour to serve the people of Big Lakes County as Deputy Reeve,” says Marx.

“I would like to thank Council for their continued support and look forward to ensuring that Big Lakes County remains the ideal place to live, work, and play.”

Marx has been on Big Lakes council since 1998, while Matthews has been at the table since 2006.
