COVID-19 UPDATE: April 15

On April 15, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,646 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 166,177.

Five people passed away, which means 2,034 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

416 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 16,513 cases of COVID-19 and 150 people have passed away.

There are currently 2,174 active cases in our zone with 94 in Mackenzie County, 74 Big Lakes County, 28 in the MD of Peace, 24 in the MD of Greenview, 22 in the MD of Fairview, 13 in the MD of Smoky River, 11 in Northern Sunrise, 10 in Clear Hills County, seven in MD of Spirit River, Saddle Hills County, and the County of Northern Lights while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 147,920 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 15,569 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • RCC Simonette Lodge, Valleyview
  • St. Theresa General Hospital, Fort Vermilion

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
