COVID-19 UPDATE: April 22

On April 22, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,857 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 177,087.

Three people passed away, which means 2,054 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

518 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 18,105 cases of COVID-19 and 152 people have passed away.

There are currently 2,543 active cases in our zone with 178 in Mackenzie County, 118 in Big Lakes County, 38 in the MD of Peace, 29 in Northern Sunrise County, 25 in the MD of Fairview, 24 in the MD of Greenview, 20 in Clear Hills County, 16 in the MD of Smoky River, 15 in the County of Northern Lights, 13 in MD of Spirit River and, eight in Saddle Hills County, and four in Birch Hills County.

AHS is reporting that 155,851 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 19,182 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • The Grocery People, High Level
  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • RCC Simonette Lodge, Valleyview
  • St. Theresa General Hospital, Fort Vermilion

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
