COVID-19 UPDATE: April 26

On April 26, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,495 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 183,301.

Seven people passed away, which means 2,074 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

616 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 18,996 cases of COVID-19 and 154 people have passed away.

There are currently 2,883 active cases in our zone with 170 in Mackenzie County, 98 in Big Lakes County, 37 in the MD of Peace, 35 in Northern Sunrise County, 23 in the MD of Fairview, 25 in the MD of Greenview, 19 in Clear Hills County, 12 in the County of Northern Lights and the MD of Spirit River, 10 in the MD of Smoky River, six in Saddle Hills County, and five in Birch Hills County.

AHS is reporting that 160,617 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 20,610 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • The Grocery People, High Level
  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
