COVID-19 UPDATE: December 16

On December 16, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,270 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 84,597.

16 people passed away, which means 760 Albertans have now died from COVID-19 including one in the northern zone.

In the North Zone, there are 5,639 cases of COVID-19 and 57 people have passed away.

There are currently 1,245 active cases in our zone with 36 in Northern Sunrise County, 27 in the MD of Peace, the MD of Greenview, and Big Lakes County, 25 in Mackenzie County, six in the MD of Smoky River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have two or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 63,668 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 20,169 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facility:

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
