COVID-19 UPDATE: December 17

On December 17, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,571new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 86,168. 

30 people passed away, which means 790 Albertans have now died from COVID-19. 

In the North Zone, there are 5,726 cases of COVID-19 and 57 people have passed away. 

There are currently 1,214 active cases in our zone with 34 in Northern Sunrise County, 31 in Big Lakes County, 26 in the MD of Peace and the MD of Greenview, 21 in Mackenzie County, five in the MD of Smoky River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have two or less active cases. 

AHS is reporting that 65,513 people have recovered from the virus. 

This means that there are currently 19,865 active cases across Alberta. 

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facility: 

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete 

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.
