COVID-19 UPDATE: December 2

On December 2, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,685 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 61,169.

10 people passed away, including two in the northern zone, which means 561 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 4,045 cases of COVID-19 and 48 people have passed away.

There are currently 967 active cases in our zone with 39 in the MD of Peace, 29 in the MD of Greenview, 13 in Big Lakes County, eight in Northern Sunrise County, six in Mackenzie County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four active cases or less.

AHS is reporting that 43,464 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 17,144 active cases across Alberta.

Premier Jason Kenney was on hand to announce that Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs, Paul Winnick will lead the province’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution task force.

Kenney added that he is hopeful the first doses will arrive in Alberta starting January 4, 2021.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following places:

  • Fairview Health Complex
  • Peace River Correctional Facility

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

It is also recommended you wear a mask if social distancing is not possible.
