COVID-19 UPDATE: January 21

On January 21, Alberta Health Services confirmed 678 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 119,114. 

16 people passed away, which means 1,500Albertans have now died from COVID-19. 

In the North Zone, there are 9,496 cases of COVID-19 and 91 people have passed away. 

There are currently 1,383 active cases in our zone with 105 in Big Lakes County, 72 in the MD of Greenview, 54 in the MD of Peace, 34 in Northern Sunrise County, 23 in Mackenzie County, nine in the MD of Smoky River while all other jurisdictions in our area have two or less active cases. 

AHS is reporting that 107,358 people have recovered from the virus. 

This means that there are currently 10,256 active cases across Alberta. 

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities: 

  • High Prairie Health Complex 
  • Peace River Correctional Centre 

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.
