COVID-19 UPDATE: January 6

On January 6, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,123 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 107,501. 

25 people passed away, which means 1,193 Albertans have now died from COVID-19. 

In the North Zone, there are 7,701 cases of COVID-19 and 73 people have passed away, including one person in the most recent update. 

There are currently 1,317 active cases in our zone with 124 in Big Lakes County, 64 in the MD of Peace, 63 in Northern Sunrise County, 38 in the MD of Greenview, 22 in Mackenzie County, seven in the MD of Spirit River, five in the MD of Smoky River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases. 

AHS is reporting that 92,858 people have recovered from the virus. 

This means that there are currently 13,450 active cases across Alberta. 

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities: 

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete 
  • Peace River Correctional Facility 

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.
