COVID-19 UPDATE: March 17

On March 17, Alberta Health Services confirmed 479 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 139,622.

Four people passed away, which means 1,956 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

262 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 12,938 cases of COVID-19 and 142 people have passed away.

There are currently 774 active cases in our zone with 185 in Mackenzie County, 35 in the MD of Greenview, 32 in the MD of Peace, seven in Big Lakes County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 132,738 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 4,918 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Knowledge Tree Childcare Centre, Valleyview
  • Mighty Peace Chevrolet, Buick, GMC
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • Valleyview Health Centre

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
