COVID-19 UPDATE: May 3

On May 3, Alberta Health Services confirmed 2,012 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 196,910.

Four people passed away, which means 2,090 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

658 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 21,142 cases of COVID-19 and 158 people have passed away.

There are currently 3,478 active cases in our zone with 176 in Mackenzie County, 90 in Big Lakes County, 82 in the MD of Peace, 29 in Northern Sunrise County, 20 in the MD of Greenview, 13 in the MD of Fairview, 10 in the MD of Smoky River, nine in the MD 10 in Clear Hills County, of Spirit River, five in the County of Northern Lights, while all other jurisdictions in our region have four or less active cases at this time.

AHS is reporting that 171,212 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 23,608 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • The Grocery People, High Level
  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
