Starting December 21, 2021, all Albertans 18 years or older who received their second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine at least five months ago are now eligible for a third booster dose.

The Omicron variant has arrived in the province and the severity of it is not yet known, but has been showing an increases risk of transmission. Expanded availability of third doses for Covid-19 are aiming to prevent community spread and provide more protection to the population.

Albertans are encouraged to take any mRNA vaccine available to them for the third dose, with both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines offering a high level of protection against the virus and severe outcomes.

Pfizer will be offered to Albertans 18 to 29 years of age for booster purposes as a cautionary measure. While there is a slightly increased risk of myocarditis in younger Albertans from Moderna, especially in males, individuals are much more likely to experience myocarditis from COVID-19 infection than the vaccine.

You can book your booster appointment with AHS online using the Alberta vaccine booking system, calling Healthlink at 811 or at participating pharmacies.
