This week for the Friday Five I decided to list the top 5 Christmas movies in my opinion. I asked you all on Facebook earlier this week what your favourites were and it did have an impact on the list.

5. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

Well I finally checked out Christmas Vacation and I was not disappointed, the Chevy Chase led classic holds up. The movie tells the story of the Griswold family spending Christmas vacation at home with their relatives and the ensuing mayhem. Whether it is Uncle Eddie or a squirrel you will laugh and enjoy this classic that maintains it’s status as a holiday classic 1989.

4. Jingle All The Way

If you are a parent you can relate to the idea of trying to get your child the gift they really really want for Christmas, well that is the what this movie is about. Arnold plays a father who is never around and tries to make his sons Christmas by getting him the Turbo Man action figure aka the hottest toy on the market. He goes to extraordinary lengths to get this action figure which leads him into colliding with a mail man played by Sinbad to getting one. The movie gives us the line: “Put that cookie down, NOW”

3. Elf

The 2003 film became an instant classic for the holiday season with Will Ferrell starring as Buddy the Elf. Buddy is an human who as a baby in an orphanage ends up in Santa’s bag and taken to the North Pole by accident and is raised as an elf. Years later a now adult Buddy travels to New York to meet his dad who is on the Naughty List and hilarity ensues as he adapts to the human world. Elf is so quotable, hilarious and well rounded holiday movie for you and the family to enjoy.

2. The Muppets Christmas Carol

There are many versions of the Charles Dicken Classic and this one is the best in my opinion. Kermit as the Muppets are characters in the classic with Michael Caine portraying Scrooge. The movie is narrated by the lovable Gonzo as Charles Dickens and Rizzo the Rat along for the comedy. The movie hits you with classic Muppet humor while Caine adds the depth and plays a great Scrooge.

1.Dr. Seuss How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Topping the list is the live action version of the Dr. Seuss classic book. Jim Carrey plays the Grinch and surrounded by a great supporting cast that makes the movie stand out compared to the other versions. The movie is relatable, tugs at the old heart strings and brings depth to the popular character celebrating it’s 65 anniversary, the book no the film. I have seen this movie so many time I can quote it in time with the movie every time I watch.
