With the federal election coming up on September 20, the Trending 55 Newsroom will be profiling the candidates running in Peace River-Westlock and Grande Prairie-Mackenzie.

We spoke to Ambrose Ralph, the Maverick Party candidate for Grande Prairie-Mackenzie, who says he’s looking to help support farmers in the region.

“In Mr. Trudeau’s climate change agenda, he has said that he plans to cut fertilizer on farms by 30%. Farmers have told me if fertilizer is cut by 30%, that means their yield would also cut by 30%. It would not be economical and I firmly oppose that.”

Ralph says he’s been a political activist for the past three years and says he decided to run in the election because of frustrations he’s seen with the federal government.

“There’s the constant pandering to Eastern Canada, and particularly to Quebec. The Conservative party has been turning their back on the West and particularly on Alberta. Not only our oil and gas industry, but our farmers, our loggers and our miners. Generally speaking, it’s favouritism and we are getting the raw end of it.”
