Fire department extinguishes apartment fire
Peace River, Alberta – The Peace River Fire Department responded to a structure fire at an apartment complex in the north end of town at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
Fifteen firefighters from the Peace River, Weberville, and St. Isidore fire departments brought the fire under control within two hours. Crews were on scene for nine hours mopping up hot spots and ventilating the building to remove smoke and toxic gases.
The fire was mostly contained to the apartment unit where the fire started, with extensive damage caused to this unit and some damage to the apartment units above and below. Heat and smoke damage is present throughout the building and apartment units in the vicinity of the unit that caught fire suffered water damage.
There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters, but unfortunately two cats perished.
Thirty occupied apartments were evacuated and the residents are now displaced. The total number of residents affected is not known at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Town of Peace River staff managed a reception centre at the Baytex Energy Centre for affected residents during the fire. That reception centre is now closed. Impacted residents of the Norglen apartment building can contact Community Services at 780-624-1000 for information on available resources.

Peace River, Alta – Peace River RCMP is advising that a reception center for evacuees is being setup at the Baytex Energy Centre – 9810 73 Ave, Peace River.

Peace River, Alta – Peace River RCMP are assisting local fire services with the response to a large structure fire. Peace River RCMP are asking members of the public to avoid the North End area of Peace River, specifically in the area of 77th Avenue so as to allow the free flow of emergency vehicles. An update will follow as more information becomes available.
