Four people charged following seizure of drugs and weapons

A traffic stop by the Red Earth Creek RCMP led to several charges against four suspects.

On May 29, officers stopped a vehicle and immediately arrested the driver for giving a fake name.

Police then searched for identification and ended up seizing methamphetamine and cocaine, which led to the arrest of everyone in that vehicle.

The investigation did not stop there as the Red Earth Creek detachment ended up getting a search warrant for the driver’s residence.

Officers search the property in Trout Lake and ended up confiscating: several firearms, including a sawed off shotgun, ammunition, over $2,000 cash, several cell phones, brass knuckles, methamphetamine, suspected cocaine and heroin. The vehicle involved in this investigation was also impounded for 30 days as the driver was prohibited from driving in Canada.

Billy Joe Cardinal of Trout Lake is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking, Methamphetamine/cocaine/heroin
  • Possession of a firearm and/or ammunition while prohibited
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Operate a conveyance while prohibited
  • Possession of a non-restricted firearm without holding a license
  • Possess proceeds of crime not exceeding $5,000

Victor Junior Okemow of Peerless Lake is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking, Methamphetamine/cocaine/heroin
  • Possess proceeds of crime not exceeding $5,000
  • Possession of a firearm and/or ammunition while prohibited
  • Possession of a non-restricted firearm without holding a license

Holly Lynn Okemow of Peerless Lake is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking, Methamphetamine/cocaine/heroin
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm/restricted weapon or prohibited weapon
  • Proceeds of crime not exceeding $5,000

Carl Randy Cardinal of Trout Lake is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking, Methamphetamine/cocaine/heroin
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon
  • Possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon without a licence

Following judicial hearings, both Billy Okemow and Victor Cardinal have been remanded into custody and will be in Red Earth Creek Provincial Court on June 16. Both Holly Okemow and Carl Cardinal have been released and have court dates on August 18.
