Health Minister Confident In Vaccine Supply

With over two-thirds of Albertans having received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines, many are now wondering when they can get their second shots.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro was on the Trending 55 Hot Seat and says they have enough shots of the Pfizer vaccine to last until the end of July.

“We have the certainty that the Pfizer vaccine is at least going to be available. The Moderna one isn’t coming in as often, I think we only have 11,000 coming in this week and we don’t know when the next shipment will be, if ever. But with the Pfizer vaccines we have coming until the end of July, we’re confident with our supply for second doses.”

Shandro says even with that going on, they’re still focused on getting enough of the first doses in for the next stage of the reopening.

“Anybody who had their first doses in April, they were going to have their second doses opened up for booking no later than June 14th, I think we’re going to be able to move that forward more quickly. Right now though because we’re so close to that finish line of 70%, we also don’t want to take our eye off the ball in getting those first doses out the door as well.”

We spoke to the minister about the vaccinations and the re-opening strategy, the full conversation can be found below.
