A couple of offices in High Prairie will be closing.

Big Lakes County issued a media release on March 25 in which it was revealed that the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation branch will be amalgamated with the AFSC office in Falher.

According to the county, the High Prairie branch will close its doors for the final time on April 30, but there is not expected to have an effect on personal accounts with the corporation.

No disruptions in service are anticipated either.

In the same release, Big Lakes says another decision was made that will affect livestock farmers.

Council passed its interim 2021 budget this past November and the release states that Big Lakes County is facing its fair share of financial challenges due to unpaid property taxes, as well as a decline in the municipal assessment values.

“One of the difficult choices Council made was not to renew the 2021 Veterinary Service Incorporated (VSI) contract,” says the county.

“Over the past few years, the main complaint heard by the Agricultural Advisory Committee was that there is limited access to timely veterinary services and the difficulty in retaining local veterinarians?

The county adds it wants to work with the Agricultural Advisory Committee to find better solutions for producers in the Big Lakes region.

In closing, the plan is to hold a community public forum with MLA Pat Rehn once public health guidelines allow it.

The county says anyone with ideas can contact Assistant Agricultural Fieldman, Kendra Kozdroski: kkozdroski@biglakescounty.ca.
