On November 2, 2021 the High Prairie Post Office started offering new, expanded services to the communities in the region. Canada Post has added new services to the High Prairie Post Office to make it a first of it’s kind community hub model.

It’s the first Canada Post Office to have the new business model in the entire nation.

Residents will be able to access financial and other public services in addition to postal. The added features will offer secure 24-hour parcel drop-off and pick-up, parcel lockers and contactless induction. Money services provided on site will be through Canada Post MyMoney Loan, an ATM, as well as small-business support services.

Canada Post is planning on adding similar services to another location in Membertou, Nova Scotia, to become a community hub in the coming months. Plans also have two additional community hubs being added in 2022. The nationwide company is piloting the new business model to assess effectiveness in improving community access to important products and services.

The High Prairie Post Office serves as a hub for roughly 11,000 residents in the surrounding area, including up to 8,000 Indigenous people in the Metis/First Nations communities and settlements. As of today, you can visit the High Prairie community hub at 4801 52nd Avenue, in High Prairie, Alberta.
