The High Prairie Red Wings are getting ready for this season with a new head coach behind the bench.

Kevin Hopfner has been coaching in BC for the past 10 years and also played for the Regals back in the 80’s, he says he’s ready for the challenge.

“People are getting excited and wanna watch some hockey. Our rink holds quite a few people and there are a lot of fans around town so it’s going to be interesting to see how quick people get in the building to see some hockey.”

Hopfner says he’s already fitting in with the local community.

“I’ve connected with a lot of my old teammates, it’s been a lot of fun so far and meeting new people around town has been great. I’ve only met a few players so far. There are a lot of local kids which is very nice to have. Local families can come out and watch their kids play which is exciting.”

Hopfner and former head coach Ryder Prue will both serve as co-general managers for the Red Wings this season.

The first home game for the Red Wings will be on October 3, but there will be a limit of 100 people in attendance.
