The La Crete Lumber Barons are getting ready for their first season in the NWJHL.

Team President Mike Schellenberg says they already have a lot of strong support in the community.

“We’re going to be playing in the new Raymond Knelsen Arena which will be our home rink. Our fall camp is August 26-28, deadline for camp signup is August 23. We’ll have some pre-season games in High Level that will be on the September 16-18 weekend. Tentatively, our home opener will be on September 24 against Grande Prairie.”

Schellenberg says they will have a lot of travel being the most isolated team in the league.

“Every game for us is a road trip, and for the visiting teams they’ll have about two road trips here to make the schedule work. We’re very excited and very thankful that we got voted into the league, it’s an eight team league now so it will be good competition and really good hockey.”

The Lumber Barons will have pre-season games in High Level on September 16 against the Sexsmith Vipers and on September 18 against the North Peace Navigators.
