A former Peace River Town Councillor is hoping to become a Federal Member of Parliament.  Wanda Laurin (pictured) is seeking the NDP nomination to run in the newly-created Peace River-Westlock constituency.  One thing Laurin would like to work for is more cooperation between the left wing parties.  She says if they all get together and just have one candidate, they can really give the Tories a run for their money.  She would also like to see a change in how MPs are elected.  Some ideas Laurin says she’d push for includes proportional representation, mixed constituency/proportional representation, or preferential voting.  A teacher by profession, Laurin served as a councillor from 2007 until 2010, and was the provincial NDP candidate for the Peace River constituency in 2012.  One of six new constituencies created for the next election, Peace River-Westlock stretches as far north as Fort Vermilion, as far south as Whitecourt, as far west as Fairview, to as far east as Slave Lake and Westlock.
