Todd Loewen has been one of the MLA’s for the United Conservative Party that has been calling for a regional approach to public health restrictions.

The member for Central-Peace Notley was talking about the budget, as well as the pandemic and said neither are ideal situations.

Loewen tells the Trending 55 Newsroom that he is happy with the budget, but is concerned about the deficit.

“Big deficits are not something we strive for – in fact, it is something we strive against,” says Loewen.

“We suffered from low oil prices last year and of course, the pandemic has caused a lot of economic hardships.

He adds that the government is not comfortable with an $18.2 billion deficit but there is not much choice given the current situation.

He feels as more seniors get vaccinated against COVID-19, it will bring life back to normal.

“With the vaccine making its round to the older people, which is where we see most of the hurt of the pandemic,” he explains.

“We’re hoping this will help alleviate some of the stress and pressure we are under.”
