Loewen – Next Premier Needs To Restore Trust In Albertans

Todd Loewen has some things he wants to see from whoever ends up being the next Premier of Alberta.

The MLA for Central Peace-Notley says he wants a Premier that can “rebuild the trust of Albertans.”

“I think right now, we have to be at an all-time low for trust in politicians and trust in politics in Alberta. In order to get people back on track and get people being able to trust the people that represent them, we need to have somebody that can show that kind of trust and build that kind of trust within Albertans. We need to do that before the next election, I think the next election will be fought on trust.”

Loewen also tells the newsroom he is thinking about taking a run at the leadership.

Jason Kenney said last week he will quit once a new leader is chosen after he received 51 per cent support in a leadership review vote.

Loewen says he wanted Kenney to step away completely to help develop unity and rebuilding the party.

“Until he leaves, I think that makes it difficult to happen. It’s kinda like taking a band-aid off very slowly, I think it needed to be ripped off. He needs to leave and we need to get back to working together and getting the party back together and regaining the trust of Albertans. We do only have a year before the next election, so we have a lot of work to do to make sure we don’t have an NDP government.”

We talked with Loewen about the leadership situation, that full discussion can be found below.
