Mackenzie County suggests local contractors make competitive bids to be part of disaster recovery work

Officials with Mackenzie County want to see disaster recovery contract work going to local businesses.

However, according to Chief Administrative Officer, Len Racher’s statement on the county’s facebook page, “if contractors don’t sharpen their pencils and provide competitive quotes, it won’t be done by contractors from our county.”

Reeve Josh Knelsen says this is a reminder to local businesses, not an accusation.

“It is not an accusation towards anybody; it is just a reminder that this won’t be tolerated at all,” says Knelsen. “We (the county) are watching, the province is watching, everybody is watching closely so I remind everybody to sharpen their pencils and puts in good and honest prices, everyone will do just fine.”

Racher echoed Knelsen’s comments in his statement.

“We would like all recovery work to be done by Mackenzie County contractors. But I am really concerned that this will only happen if the bids are competitive. DRP personnel tell me they will be reviewing all proposals and won’t hesitate to repost RFPs if bids are out of line with insurance estimates and DRP experience in other parts of the province.”
