The Fort Vermilion School Division has revealed their nominee for the Edward Parr Award.
4th grade teacher Makayla Reed from Buffalo Head Prairie School is getting the nod.
The award gives recognition to first year teachers in Alberta.  6 are selected from nominees sent in from school divisions across the province.

Miss Reed grew up in the North, graduating from La Crete Public School.
She showed a dedication to her first teaching job, spending a lot of her summer prepping for the school year.

Buffalo Head Prairie School Principal, Chris Fehr, feels her nomination is well deserved. “Miss Reed has demonstrated exceptional organizational qualities and has pushed herself to learn and grow as a young teacher, even when the workload was, at times, overwhelming. Miss Reed has demonstrated kindness and care for her students, school staff, and members of the community.”

Reed pointed out that she gets to work with a strong team.  “Without the support from the staff here my year would have turned out very differently, I have been able to learn so much from the amazing staff here. I have also had the privilege of working with a fantastic full time EA in the classroom, she has taught me so much in terms of working with students who have disabilities. I could not have done this year without her and the staff here at this school.”

Reed passed on some tips for other teachers joining the education field. “The best advice I could give to a first-year teacher is, it will be a hard yet rewarding and memorable year. Take each hurdle or unknown as a chance to learn and grow, without hurdles there is no growth.”
