Mercer Altering Plans For Boiler Maintenance

The Mercer Pulp mill in Peace River has had to make some changes to their maintenance plans.

A major rebuild for the recovery boiler was planned to start in late June and run until early November, but the restrictions from the pandemic means the completion of that will be delayed until 2021.

Instead, the company will be commencing site assembly of the new recovery boiler components, and around 40 specialized and contract workers from Alberta and BC will make their way to the Mill to complete the work.

Despite the influx of more people into the community, the company says in a statement that they’ve incorporated COVID-19 preventative measures into their planning process to mitigate any risk to the community.
