Officials in Alberta say there has been significant progress in the fight against wildfires due to rain, cooler weather and the efforts of firefighters.

Several evacuated communities have announced re-entry plans this week while others are preparing for residents to return.

Evacuation orders for the town of Swan Hills, town of Fox Creek, hamlet of Little Smoky, MD of Greenview, the Sturgeon Lake area and East Prairie Metis Settlement have been lifted.

Certain communities returning home remain under four-hour evacuation alert.

Nearly seven-thousand people remain displaced from their homes.

Firefighters from New Zealand and Australia are expected to arrive in Alberta over the coming days to help fight the wildfires.
