Navigating a Pandemic Away From Home

This pandemic has been really tough on most people, not being able to visit with our friends and family. And if you’re someone who is navigating this pandemic with your family on the other side of the country, I’m with you.

I’m from Ontario, and navigating this pandemic has been really, really hard. My dad is over 60, and has various health problems. It’s been really hard to be away; worrying about him, not being able to do his shopping for him and reduce his exposure. Worrying that he isn’t taking proper care of himself, washing his hands enough, keeping his hands away from his face.

Sure, I could hop on a plane and go home. But do I want to? Do I want to be crammed on a plane full of people? Do I want to be wearing a mask for the entire 12-13 hr journey from Grande Prairie to Ottawa? Not particularly. And on top of the risk of travelling, when I get home I would be staying at my mom’s. She works in a nursing home. Do I want to risk bringing something into her house for her to then bring to work? Oh my god, no.

So if we could all just do what is recommended of us to stop this thing, that’d be great.
